Focus on technological leadership and resilience
Empowering Europe: Technological Leadership for a Resilient Future
This year's Technology Talks Austria will take place on September 10 and 11, 2026, at the MuseumsQuartier Vienna – following the FFG Forum (9 September 2026).
The central theme is “Empowering Europe: Technological Leadership for a Resilient Future.”
Europe is facing a decade in which technological leadership, economic competitiveness, security and resilience can no longer be viewed in isolation from one another. The central question of ‘Technology Talks Austria 2026’ is therefore:
>> How can Europe translate scientific excellence into technological leadership, industrial strength, strategic autonomy and long-term resilience? <<
The conference follows a deliberately chosen narrative arc, leading from technological capabilities and infrastructure,
through industrialisation and security, to sovereignty, framework conditions and innovation systems.

The country’s most important technology conference
Supported by the research and technology community, Technology Talks Austria has grown to become Austria’s leading technology conference, with a European and international profile, and has established itself as a fixed annual fixture in the events calendar.
A mix of keynote speeches, plenary debates, workshops and special events
Through a mix of high-calibre keynote speeches by internationally renowned speakers, diverse plenary debates, in-depth workshops, special events and plenty of opportunity for discussion and networking, the event will highlight the central importance of research, innovation and technology (RIT) for a competitive, future-proof and resilient Europe
Empowering Europe: Technological Leadership for a Resilient Future
Technology Talks Austria 2026 brings together decision-makers from politics, industry, academia and international innovation ecosystems to discuss how resilient infrastructure, dual-use technologies, digital ecosystems, and industrial and research-related expertise can strengthen Europe’s technological leadership. This raises many questions. Such as
-
What infrastructure enables resilience?
-
How do we translate scientific findings into industrial leadership?
-
How do innovation and security reinforce one another?
-
What is required for technological sovereignty?
-
What European framework conditions are needed?
-
How can national innovation systems contribute to a strong Europe?
The following topics are planned for the plenary debates:
Strategic Infrastructures and Resilient Innovation Ecosystems
What are the strategic infrastructures Europe must strengthen to remain resilient, competitive, and capable in an increasingly uncertain world?
The Way Forward: From Scientific Excellence to Industrial Leadership
Why does Europe excel in science but struggle to create global technology champions – and what must change?
Dual-Use Technologies: Innovation, Security, and Spillovers
How can Europe leverage dual use technologies to strengthen both innovation and security?
Technological Sovereignty and European Resilience
What does technological sovereignty actually mean – and how can Europe achieve it?
EU Framework Conditions for Innovation, Scaling and Impact
Which framework conditions (FP10, ECF, Single Market, Partnerships etc.) does Europe need to innovate, scale, and compete globally?
National Innovation Systems: Unlocking Europe’s Innovation Potential
What can Europe learn from its most successful national innovation systems – and how European countries can contribute to common European goals?
Top-class international speakers

Jo De Boeck (IMEC), Isabell Gradert (Airbus), Alfons Riek (Festo), Natalie Guichard (EDF), Jakob Edler (Fraunhofer ISI), Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (EU-Parlament), Marcus Wandt (Saab), Marie-Helene Ametsreiter (Speedinvest),
