Annelieke van der Giessen

Advisory council for science, technology and innovation (AWTI)
Annelieke van der Giessen is council secretary and director of the Advisory council for science, technology and innovation (AWTI). The AWTI advises the Dutch government and parliament on policy in the areas of scientific research, technological development and innovation.
In 2016 Annelieke started as senior scientific staff member at AWTI and since 2021 she has been deputy director of the advisory council. Between 2001 and 2016 Annelieke has been researcher and project manager at TNO (Delft, the Netherlands). She performed contract research in the field of science, technology and innovation policy for both national and international clients, including the Dutch government, the European Commission, and industry associations. Annelieke specialises in research and innovation policy studies. She has special interest in national and sectoral systems of innovation, the policy mix for innovation, the impact of R&D programmes as well as foresight and impact assessment of the technological and socio-economic aspects of innovation. Annelieke has a diploma in Small Business Management from Haarlem Business School and holds a master’s degree in Business Studies, with a specialisation in management of technology and innovation, from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
