Andrea Schenker-Wicki

Andrea Schenker-Wicki, born in 1959, studied food sciences at ETH Zurich and economics at the University of Zurich. In 1990, she obtained a doctorate in operations research and computer science from the University of Fribourg. In 1996, she completed her habilitation at the University of St.Gallen with a study on the evaluation of academic performance.
From 1990 to 1997, Schenker-Wicki worked as a research associate and from 1993 as Information Officer at the National Emergency Operations Centre in Zurich. She then took up responsibility for universities at the Federal Office for Education and Science (now the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation).
From 2001 to 2015, she held a full professorship in business administration at the University of Zurich and served as Director of the Executive MBA. Between 2012 and 2014, she also held the office of Vice President of Law and Economics at the University of Zurich.
Among other positions, Andrea Schenker-Wicki is President of the Chamber of Universities and Vice President of swissuniversities (the Rectors’ Conference of Swiss Universities), as well as President of Eucor – The European Campus, the tri-national alliance of five universities in the Upper Rhine. She was also a member of the Austrian Science Council (2010–2016) and the German Accreditation Council. She has received honorary doctorates from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (2013), the Asian University for Women (2023), and the University of Haute-Alsace (2024).
Andrea Schenker-Wicki has been President of the University of Basel since 1 August 2015. Her third term of office continues until 31 July 2027.
