Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann
Chair of the Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE)
European Parliament
Born on 10 March 1958 in Düsseldorf. Married, with three children. After completing my A-levels, I studied journalism, politics and German language and literature at LMU in Munich, where I also obtained my doctorate (Dr. phil.). I then worked for over 20 years as a publishing representative in the sales department of the children’s book publisher Tessloff. From 2008 to 2014, I served as First Mayor of the state capital, Düsseldorf. I was a city councillor from 2004 to 2023. From 2013 to 2019, I was Deputy Federal Chair of the FDP. I served as a Member of the Bundestag from 2017 to 2024. From 2017 to 2021, I was the spokesperson for local government and defence policy for the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag. I have been a member of the FDP Federal Executive Committee since 2019 and returned to the FDP Presidium in 2023. From 2021 to 2024, I was Chair of the Defence Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag. In June 2024, elected as a Member of the European Parliament. There, she served as Chair of the Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) and Chair of the FDP delegation in the European Parliament. Member of the Executive Board of the liberal Renew Group in the European Parliament.
